Apple removed all 181 vaping apps from the Apple store this morning. Why is it so important, you ask? Because this step was taken after 42 people died from vaping related illness as it caused lungs problem. According to Axios, Apple confirmed that all the vaping apps had been banned from its App store for they violate its App store guidelines. And this being the case any such Vaping application will not be available for download in the Apple store.
According to an Apple spokesperson, “Experts ranging from the CDC to the American Heart Association have attributed a variety of lung injuries and fatalities to e-cigarette and vaping products, going so far as to call the spread of these devices a public health crisis and a youth epidemic. We agree, and we’ve updated our App Store Review Guidelines to reflect that apps encouraging or facilitating the use of these products are not permitted.”
So, what exactly are Vaping devices?
Vaping devices are used for E-cigarettes. Vaping refers to the practice of inhaling and exhaling Aerosol, which is ‘Vapour’. Since E-cigarettes don’t emit smoke.
How exactly does Vaping device and Apps work?
Well, it’s quite easy than one could imagine. Vaping device consists of a battery, a cartridge that contains either E-Liquid or E-Juice which on heating turns into Aerosol or the so-called, ‘Vapour’ and a battery which is used to head the E-Liquid. With the help of battery, the content in the Vaping device or E-Liquid is heated up, which upon heating turns the E-Liquid into Aerosol. After which Aerosol is inhaled or sucked into the lungs and is exhaled in the form of Vapour. Pretty easy, right. Just like how a normal Cigarette works! Coming to Vaping apps, some help users in guiding the nearest vape store, some works as guides and some as the e-juice calculators.
Although E-Cigarettes are considered less harmful as compared to cigarettes, still, both of them harms the lungs and the debate remains the same. For Aerosol, which is often mistaken for water vapour contains very fine particles. And these fine particles are very harmful to the body as they often lead to lungs and heart Cancer which is a matter of concern.
Apple took this decision after a report which suggested that around 2,172 cases and 42 death have been caused due to the Vaping practise, especially among the youth. According to the Company, Apple has never appreciated the sale of such apps where the cartridges can be directly purchased from the app itself. And hence Apple to reduce the practice of Vaping has completely banned vaping apps from its app store from June, and this initiative of Apple surely has been appreciated.
“The Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids applauds Apple for taking this important step and doing its part to address the youth e-cigarette epidemic. By taking e-cigarette related apps off the App Store, Apple will help reduce youth exposure to e-cigarette marketing and discourage youth use of these products. Apple is setting a welcome example of corporate responsibility in protecting our kids.” Said Matthew L. Myers, president of the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids.
Although Vaping is quite a popular practise nowadays with the widespread of E-Cigarette. And the Vaping apps that have been downloaded in the past will function normally in the iPhones’ as they have, but no new downloads will be permitted from now on.
